Here you may find information about some of the programmes I find essential and try to install on any pc that I might be using at some given moment in time. They are listed in random order with no reference whatsoever to their importance, practicality or appeal. The programmes listed here are all either free or open-source.

  • Netmon by Johan Samuelson. This is a very neat programme which outlines the connections your pc in making when online. You are able to terminate a connection if you so wish or get additional info about another by right-clicking on it. As of now, it is free.
  • Firefox by the Mozilla Foundation. This is a very easy to use and fast web browser. Unfortunately, still exist some sites which can only be viewed by IE...sigh...As of now, it is open-source.
  • Feedreader by the FeedReader Development Group. This is an open-source RSS reader. It notifies the user whenever there are new headlines and can be very easy to set up. As of now, it is open-source.
  • OpenExpert by BAxBEx Software. This programme lets the user specify which application to use in order to open a certain document (any kind of document). Very useful in case you don't want only the default application to handle a certain file type. As of now, it is free for personal use.
  • AntiVir Personal Edition Classic by the H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH. This is an anti-virus programme with quite frequent virus definition updates. As of now, it is free for personal use.
  • Cygwin of the Cygwin Project. An extremely useful linux-like environment for windows. It is a must-have. As of now, this programme is open-source.
  • Irfanview by Irfan Skiljan. A very easy to use programme to view or convert images to a multitude of formats. As of now, this programme is free.
  • iTunes by Apple. Nice audio player. As of now, this programme is free.
  • PuTTY by the PuTTY Team. Useful Telnet/SSH application. Quite useful are also the other applications offered along with PuTTY such as PSFTP. As of now, this programme is open-source.
  • PDFCreator by Sector 7-G. An easy way to convert any printable document to PDF. As of now, this programme is open-source.
  • Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. I have been faithful to this antispyware programme. As of now, this programme is free for personal use.
  • 2 Password by Manoj Mishra. An easy to use programme for retrieving passowrds from ***** fields. As of now, this programme is free.
  • The Gimp by The Gimp Team. A powerful image editing software. As of now, this programme is open-source.
  • ColorCop by Datastic. A very neat color-picker programme. As of now, this programme is free.
  • DeepBurner Free by AstonSoft. If you like to create ISO compatible CDs, this is one programme for you. As of now, this programme is free.
  • IPResolve by Zone 17 Software. A very easy to use programme which converts an IP to a domain name and vice versa. As of now, this programme is free.
  • Angry IP Scanner by Angryziber Software. This is a very neat IP Scanner. As of now, this programme is free.
  • MiKTeX, a TeX implementation for Windows. As of now, this file bundle is open-source. It includes YAP, a DVI previewer.
  • AFPL GhostView by Ghostgum Software Pty Ltd. I use this as a viewer of ps documents. In order to install it you will need AFPL GhostScript. As of now, both programmes are open-source.
  • CurrPorts, viewer of open TCP/IP connections. This program is free. NirSoft is a company which provides free utilities - some very nice and useful - for the pc.
